No, you are not required to participate in any extra-curriculars. However, they are beneficial in facilitating your language learning. Clubs and volunteer activities are included in the tuition, while excursions are an additional fee.

What is the typical homework load for a student?
Students are expected to study 2-3 hours a night, though this varies depending on your level and the intensity of the course.
Is there any pre-work I should do before arrival?
There is no official prework required before arrival. It would be beneficial to review any previous work from Arabic courses and practice speaking in order to prepare for the placement and oral exams.
What should I pack if I am living with a host family or in the residence halls?
The residence halls provide most essentials, including bed linens and pillows. Towels and toilet paper are not provided. These are easily available for purchase at most supermarkets. Host families are not required to give you a towel but will provide toilet paper. It is a good idea to bring a small gift for your host family. Please see the student guide for a complete packing list.
If I am learning Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), will I be able to efficiently communicate with locals?
While Darija (Colloquial Moroccan Arabic) is the language of daily life in Morocco, MSA is used for official business and government communications and is widely understood by locals.
Will I be able to join a gym?
Yes! There are no gym facilities at the residence hall, but there are many gyms within walking distance of the two centers. If interested in a gym membership, please inform the staff upon arrival and they will be happy to assist you.
Do I need a visa to enter the country?
Depending on what country you are from, you may need to apply for a student visa. A VISA is not required for citizens of European Union and North America for durations less than 3 months. Please check with your local Moroccan consulate/embassy before your arrival.
Semester Program FAQ
How many courses can I take?
Full-time students need to take a minimum of 12 credits per semester. You can take one required Modern Standard Arabic Course (Standard or Intensive) along with any combination of elective and area study courses. Most students should have an average of 20 to 30 in-class hours per week.
Are there any other costs?
Airfare costs are not included in the price shown, as well as personal spending costs for gifts and daily transportation.
Can I receive credits from my home institution?
In order to ensure receiving credits from your home academic institution, you must seek pre-approval from your home academic advisor or study abroad office. Upon request, we will provide your institution with course information as well as academic transcripts.
What is the maximum number of students allowed in a course?
Language and elective courses are capped at 10 students, and content courses are capped at 15 students.
Can I choose my own accommodation?
The program offers a choice of accommodations in the international student residence or with welcoming host families. You may also arrange your own accommodation.
