Arabic Language Cafe Thursday
April 25, 2019 from 4:30pm to 6:00pm
At this week’s Arabic Language Café, students will discuss the protection of intellectual property rights in the age of the information revolution.
The technological revolution in the world, including the spread of the Internet, makes it easier to obtain, copy and distribute information freely with just a few simple clicks of the computer mouse. Buying a blank, cheap CD-ROM is all it takes to make a copy of the original CD-ROM, often without a big difference in quality between the original and the copy. These copies are sometimes made without due regard for copyright, which is harmful to the original owners of these works- whether writers, musicians or actors.
1. How do people deal with the information available on the Internet?
2. Is using information available on the Internet a kind of piracy?
3. How can intellectual property rights be protected in the era of the information revolution?
